Surgical Treatment of Hypoplasia of the Ascending Aorta

* From the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Charlotte Memorial Hospital, Charlotte, N. C. This work was supported by grants by The John A. Hartford Medical Research Foundation. The first clinical reference to obstructive lesions of the ascending aorta was made by Chevers’ in 1842. Perou’s2 early classification of this condition included three anatomic types: obstructing chords,3-s annular narrowing and internal membranes.4 The more recent clinical study of Meyers and Willisio
