Performance Measurement of a Private Cloud in the OpenCirrusTM Testbed

Cloud computing realizes the advantages and overcomes the restrictions of the grid computing paradigm. Elastic infrastructures can be easily created and managed by cloud users. In order to accelerate the research on data center management and cloud services the OpenCirrus Research Testbed has been started by HP, Intel and Yahoo!. Although commercial cloud offerings are proprietary, an Open Source solution exists in the field of IaaS with Eucalyptus. This paper examines the I/O and CPU performance as well as the network transfer rate of cloud computing infrastructures implemented with Eucalyptus in contrast to Amazon EC2/S3.
