Reliability and production assessment of wind energy production connected to the electric network supply

The paper describes a simulation model that evaluates the effect of connecting wind energy generators to the electric supply system and particularly to distribution networks. It includes energy production and failure/repair events and has been integrated into a simulation programme developed to assess reliability and energy production of composite systems. A set of wind generation indices describing wind energy production and the limitations that the transmission system imposes upon it are discussed. The model is based on stochastic simulation techniques. The analysis of composite systems containing wind generation is illustrated with an application example.
