Cell Management and Handover Method in IEEE 802.16e-based Femto-cell Systems

PURPOSE: A cell management method and a handover method are provided to increase the accuracy of handover generated in a boundary area of a cell by reducing the size of a cell management message including the information of a neighboring base station. CONSTITUTION: A serving base station broadcasts a neighboring base station notification message to a terminal. The neighboring base station notification message includes the information of a sector, in which a terminal is located, and the information of a base station which locates in a boundary area of a cell. A neighboring base station provides cell tier information to the terminal. When a reception signal of the serving base station is maintained during timeout time set as a predetermined value, the terminal handovers data to an adjacent cell. The predetermined value is smaller than a value except for a variable hysteresis margin of handover set from the reception signal of the neighboring base station. [Reference numerals] (AA) Sharing femtosystem network topology; (BB,JJ) Terminal analyzes cell signals; (CC) Cell signal quality(time > hysteresis & serving cell Hysteresis considering overlapped cells); (NN) Terminal and base station determine handover(handover as rank 2); (OO) IEEE 802. 16e, FBS handover;
