Derivation of closed-form spatial Green's functions for printed circuit structures with substrates and superstrates

A novel approach to deriving closed-form expressions for the spatial domain Green's function (vector and scalar potentials) associated with a horizontal electric dipole (HED) located over a thick substrate has recently been described. This technique is extended here to analyze a planar structure with both a substrate and a superstrate. The superstrate may form naturally on a printed antenna due to the weather conditions: it may also be deliberately introduced either as a protective cover or as a means to enhance the gain of a printed antenna by utilizing the substrate-superstrate resonances.<<ETX>>
