Numerical Modelling of Solid Rocket Motors for Mechanical Integrity Assessment

To develop capability in estimating the mechanical integrity of solid rocket motors, a computational model has been developed in this paper. Using parameters and mechanical properties obtained from literature and industry, finite element numerical modelling was performed in COMSOL. Mechanical analysis has been performed keeping in mind, the rocket motor during firing. The stress experienced by the rocket motor during the firing process under pressure loading has then been assessed from the computational study.
