A model based cable network simulator: development and experimental verification

Determination of the channel is a key to any data communication. Recently, a deterministic method to compute voltage ratios and input impedances of an indoor power line network has been proposed (2005). In our work, we extend this method based on the calculation of multipath reflected waves to the determination of reflection and transmission coefficients in cable networks. To assess the validity of our model, we measure the electrical characteristics of cables, develop a simulator based on the model, and incorporate the measured cable characteristics into the Simulator. We apply the model to a large variety of cable networks, and perform measurements on the same cable networks. An excellent agreement between the model and measurements is shown
