Optical fibre turn-on sensor for the detection of mercury based on immobilized fluorophore

A mercury optical fiber dip sensor was developed by immobilizing Rhod-5N on a multimode fiber endface by silica sol-gel. The detection limit was 0.3 ppb with the dye in aqueous condition and 25 ppb when it was immobilized on fiber tips.
