Polyadenylic acid in the cytoplasm of rat liver.

Abstract Polyadenylic acid has been isolated from the deoxycholate-soluble fraction of rat liver microsomes. This polymer is not extracted with phenol at neutral pH, but can be obtained at pH 9.0. Poly A exists in the cell as a homopolymer of relatively high molecular weight. It has a sedimentation value of about 10 s at pH 5.1. The presence of poly A may account for the high adenylic acid content reported for some pulse-labeled RNA fractions.
