Les recherches indiquent fréquemment que les individus ayant un trouble du spectre de l’autisme (TSA) ont des réactions aux stimulus sensoriels qui sont différentes de celles de leurs camarades au développement typique. Les problèmes sensoriels font partie des tout premiers symptômes observés par les parents et les études montrent que 45 à 95 p. 100 des enfants ayant un TSA présentent des anomalies d’une sorte ou d’une autre sur le plan sensoriel/perceptif (WATLING et al., 2001; BEN-SASSON et al., 2007; BARANEK et al., 2008; TOMCHEK et al., 2007).
