Arduino based Smart Walking Cane for Visually Impaired People

Visually impaired people face a lot of difficulties in their daily life which hinders their movement. To help them out, an arduino based smart walking cane is developed to help them out. The cane has many features in it which will help them a lot in their movement. The smart walking cane can detect the obstacles with the help of ultrasonic sensor, which will alert them about the obstacle ahead with the sound coming from the speaker mounted on the cane. It can also detect the presence of water with the help of water sensor attached at the bottom of the cane; the alert for the same will be given by the sound from the speaker. It also helps in detecting the darkness; in case the blind person enters a dark area, alert for the same will be there. If the cane gets dropped from the hand, then it can be easily found using the RF remote in the hand of blind person; By pressing the button on it, a buzzing sound will come from the cane and it can be found easily. The most advanced feature of the cane is the emergency button, which is attached to GSM and GPS module. By pressing the emergency button, a message with location of the cane will be sent to their family member(s), so that blind person can be helped thereafter. The cane is lightweight and has a rechargeable battery which adds portability and convenience for using the cane.
