Nasal turbinate resection for relief of nasal obstruction.

Surgical correction of mechanical nasal airway obstruction is commonly attempted by means of septoplasty or submucous resection. In spite of these procedures, patients continue to present postoperatively with inadequate nasal airflow due to hypertrophied turbinates. Partial resection of turbinate mucosa, submucous turbinate resection, electrocautery and outfracture of turbinates provide additional improvement but are incomplete procedures.
