THERMAL ANALYSIS OF CONSTRUCTAL TREE-SHAPED MINICHANNEL HEAT SINK

A three-dimensional steady laminar flow and heat transfer model for the constructal tree-shaped minichannel heat sink is developed and numerically analyzed under the constant temperature heating surface. The performance such as pressure drop, temperature distribution and thermal efficiency are presented and compared with that of the corresponding serpentine flow pattern. The results indicate that,in tree-shaped flow structures, the cooling fluid flow can be effectively allocated, which enhances the heat transfer performance. In addition, the tree-shaped channels have considerable advantages over serpentine channels in both pressure drop and thermal efficiency.
