Analysis of the Stability of Intersecting Chambers in Deep Soft-Rock Roadway Construction

The finite difference software,FLAC3D,was used to study the influence of excavation sequence on chamber stability. The Xing'an mine,Hegang mining office, was modeled and deformation during pumping and tunneling were studied. The results show that the stability of the underground engineering structures is influenced by the excavation process. The excavations are nonlinear, irreversible processes closely associated with the path of stress. The displacement and stress distributions surrounding the tunneling area change depending on the excavation sequence. The stability of the entire operation is best when the sub-tunneling is excavated prior to commencing main tunneling.
