Towards an Evaluation of a Microbiology Laboratory System

The STATPack is a health information system designed to support distance consultation, integrate statewide laboratorybased disease surveillance, and to facilitate prompt response to public health threats such as bioterrorism. This paper offers a preliminary evaluation of STATPack and the rationale for developing a survey instrument to measure user acceptance of this telemedicine system. It should be recognized as research in-progress for a new technology as it is being deployed by the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory. Initial experiences with this health information system have been encouraging.
