The production target of Aluminium Norf GmbH is that of achieving high-quality rolled aluminium strip. In addition to the aluminium material flow in production, the necessary energy flows for natural gas and electricity are also shown for the integrated remelt shop and rolling line production process. A significant energy-saving potential has been achieved by means of modernization of the old soaking pit furnace and waste heat recovery system on the remelt furnaces to incorporate combustion air pre-heat and downstream thermal oil heating installation. This thermal oil is used to generate hot water, which is used by the City of Neuss municipal services for its district heating system. The overall result of these modifications is a significant reduction in energy input per t rolled sheet and a corresponding drop in specific CO 2 emissions as a consequence.
