Optoelectronic mixer for radio-on-fiber systems

The theory of frequency conversion process of optically transmitted microwave signals in the p-i-n photodiode has been developed and experimentally verified. Based on developed theory the design considerations of InGaAsP/InP p-i-n photodiode as optoelectronic mixer for frequency up-conversion in radio-on-fiber systems are provided. Optoelectronic mixing of 40 GHz and 0.5 GHz-modulated optical signals at 1.55 /spl mu/m wavelength has been theoretically examined using full-device physical model of the p-i-n photodiode.
