Socio-economic differences in health nutrition and population in Indonesia.

As part of a series covering 44 countries commissioned by the World Banks health nutrition and population (HNP) and poverty thematic group this paper examines the socioeconomic differences in HNP in Indonesia. Data were collected through the multi-country Demographic and Health Survey program conducted by Macro International. Additional data were obtained through measuring socioeconomic status using asset approach and asset index; defining wealth quintiles calculating rates and measuring inequality from the values of statistical indicators such as poor/rich ratio and concentration index. The figures presented describe the HNP status and service use among individuals belonging to different socioeconomic classes. These figures are intended to provide World Bank operational staff the government officials with whom they work and others with basic information for use in preparing country analyses and in developing HNP activities for the disadvantaged. Although the findings reported are in line with expectation the exceptions and anomalies should be further investigated.
