The optimal functionality combined with the safety are the essential criteria for support systems design. One possibility is the application of cooperative Human-Machine Systems. The objective of this article is to present an overview of the design, implementation and evaluation of cooperative Human-Machine Systems. In particular, functionality optimization, safety and reliability of such systems will be examined and analyzed. Finally we present different applications in the area of surgery and rehabilitation.
