Proposed is a block-coded on-off keying (BC-OOK) modulation scheme for ultra-wideband systems, the energy detection of which circumvents the non-trivial threshold determination required by conventional OOK schemes. Numerical results show that the proposed BC-OOK can achieve almost the same performance as the conventional OOK using the optimum detection threshold.
