REVIEW OF MODAL SPLIT MODELS

This review of modal split models provides a detailed description of models which are currently available for general use by practitioners, with a brief reference to some recent developments. The models are described in terms of their basic structure, the theoretical background, and methods of calibration, with some comments on-problems which can arise in practical use. An underlying theme is an attempt to relate and compare different types of model, with particular reference to zonal and disaggregate logit models and the problem of data aggregation. The review includes a section on elasticity models, which though not directly related to modal split can be used for forecasting travel demand by specific modes. There is also a description of some simplified models which can be used for sketch planning and other applications where little local travel data is available. (A)
