Prairie Liberalism: The Liberal Party in Saskatchewan, 1905–1971 by David E. Smith (review)

Are not the Hutterites members of the so-called 'Nordic' race and not the offspring of some 'inferior' people? And, really, is traditional prairie farming in as bad a plight as described on page • •7 ? Some large Alberta and Saskatchewan farmers might argue that they work for a 'very low income,' but the Income Tax Department would probably tell another story. What is most distracting to this reviewer, however, is the material entitled 'For Discussion, Study, Research.' Some of the more useful portions of it could have been included in an appendix, but most of it should have been left out entirely. Surely any high school student who is intelligent enough to read the main text of this book with understanding does not need the simplistic questions and instructions found in this section.
