Sense of community, empowerment and social action: an analysis across political orientations

La literatura previa indica que la orientacion politica de los individuos es probable que marque diferencias entre si en muchos aspectos (por ejemplo, los valores y la personalidad). Este estudio analiza las diferencias entre votantes de derecha y de izquierda en funcion del sentido de comunidad y el empoderamiento socio-politico. En concreto, nuestro objetivo principal fue identificar las formas politicamente orientadas a la participacion civil y politica, asi como a la desconexion. Se realizo una encuesta a 680 votantes en una eleccion primaria local. Los resultados mostraron que los simpatizantes de izquierda estuvieron mas social y politicamente comprometidos que los de derechas. Ambos emprendieron caminos diferentes a la participacion. Los resultados muestran que el sentido de comunidad juega un papel mas relevante entre los simpatizantes de izquierdas (vs. los de derecha) y produjo mas de un efecto en los procesos de movilizacion (vs. participacion). Ademas indicaron que la relacion entre el empoderamiento y la participacion vario de acuerdo a los componentes del primero, la orientacion politica de los individuos, y el tipo de accion participativa considerado)
