Treatment of equine sarcoids

WE have read with interest the paper by Stadler and others (2011), in which the authors showed the efficacy of topical aciclovir to treat equine sarcoids. We have recently treated three horses showing lesions resembling sarcoids with the antiviral drug cidofovir (1 per cent [w/w]) (Vistide; Pfizer), in combination with sucralfate gel (Sonvico and others 2009).
