Policy Options for Reducing Oil Consumption and Greenhouse-Gas Emissions from the U. S. Transportation Sector

The objective of this paper is to add to the current policy debate about how to effectively mitigate or reduce oil consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions from United States transportation sources. The paper explains the weaknesses of the status quo and therefore why new policies are required. It explores special policy challenges in this area, and analyzes the pros and cons of various individual policy measures. Finally, the paper examines the probable overall environmental and economic effects of several illustrative key policy packages.
