Results of recent tests of NEC AMS systems

Results of the performance tests of the latest NEC 5 MV Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) systems at the Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute Tono Geoscience Center (JNC) in Gifu, Japan and at the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) in Tsukuba, Japan are reported. Carbon dating precision on the order of 0.1 to 0.2% has been shown for solid and gas samples on both systems, using both the 40 sample MC-SNICS source with the NEC sequential injection system and the 12 sample MGF-SNICS gas source with the NEC simultaneous injection system. These results were obtained with analyzed beam currents up to 25 particle μA (pμA) 12C.
