Raman investigation of styrene polymerization in single optically trapped emulsion particles

Abstract The usability of the gradient force trapping technique for observing Raman scattering from single droplets during the emulsion polymerization process of styrene is examined. We are able to follow the progress of the polymerization reaction by characterizing spectroscopically the different kinds of droplets. By means of this technique Raman investigations are possible to describe reactions in emulsion droplets without disturbing effects.
