A Model Predictive Dual Current Control Method for Indirect Matrix Converter Fed Induction Motor Drives

In order to decrease controller parameters and the difficulty for parameter tuning, a model predictive dual current control (MPDCC) is proposed for the indirect matrix converter fed induction motor drives (IMC-IM), in which the performance of motor drives and the quality of the grid power supply are both described by currents. An output current predictive model is built based on the mathematical model of the induction motor, and a grid current predictive model is established according to the input LC filter model. By using the similar physical quantities, weighting factors, which are very important for the control performance and difficult to be tuned, are reduced and even canceled. Simulation results show that sinusoidal grid/output currents, unit power factor, good steady state and dynamic performances of IM have been achieved. In addition, just only one weight factor is required, which is simple to be set.
