Electromagnetic acoustics towards revolutionary imaging and therapy

In this paper, we will give an overview about recent research progress about the topic of electromagnetic (EM) acoustics, which is an interdisciplinary research area bridging EM and acoustic wave. Going beyond the conventional EM-acoustic generation by ultrashort EM illumination, this paper will introduce some recently proposed EM-acoustic sensing, imaging and therapy techniques by pushing this technique to multi-contrast and multi-functional performance. Lastly, some perspectives on the future development of the EM-acoustic imaging/therapy systems are discussed.
