Comments on NGS Proposed CORS Monumentation

The National Geodetic Surv ey (NGS) Process Action T eam 20 has de v loped a design for site monumentation for Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) of a national GPS netw ork. Thisdesign is described in admirable detail in the T eam’ s final report of 20 December 2000 (hereafter the ‘ ‘Report’’). It does not appear that an y input from outside of NGS was sought during the de v lopment of the design; this note is an attempt to of fer such input, with the perspecti ve of a long involvement with issues of stable monumentation, and particularly close kno wledge of the monumentation adopted for the Southern California Inte grated GPS Netw ork (SCIGN).
