Analysis of three-phase 12/8 structure switched reluctance motor drive

The paper presents a three-phase 12/8 structure switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive. The construction of the stator and the rotor in the motor, the structure of the rotor position detector and the controller, are introduced. The turn-off angle of the main switches in the power converter has been optimized by the indexes of the high output power, the high efficiency, the high commutation abundance and the low relative braking torque at certain electric loads and certain magnetic loads, while the motor is supplied by the four main circuits of the power converter, respectively. The developed prototype with PWM control is tested experimentally while the four main circuits of the power converter were adopted based on the optimized turn-off angle, respectively. The results show that the drive adopting an asymmetric bridge circuit has the advantages of high systematic efficiency and low peak value of the phase current.
