Overview of image interpolation technology

Image interpolation is widely studied and used in digital image processing.Firstly,the image interpolation technologies are classified into three types,including traditional interpolation,edge-based interpolation and area-based interpolation.Then,the basic principle and typical algorithms for each type are introduced.Furthermore,their scientificity is analyzed.Comparison and discussion are made.The result is found that the area-directed interpolation methods are more scientific and reasonable in theory,and the interpolated images have the best quality in both subjective visual evaluation and objective numerical comparison.Finally,the future research direction in this field is given.
