Adaptive color quantization based on perceptive edge protection

A novel adaptive color quantization algorithm is presented based on perceptive information carried by image edges. A few colors can be selected automatically to protect the semantic regions and represent the original image. Experimental results show that the proposed methods perform well in term of perception and speed.
