Combined fast fracture modelling and experimentation

Abstract Personal computers (PCs) are frequently used in fracture laboratories for a host of tasks including the capture and processing of experimental data. The aim of this research was to devise fracture models that could be hosted on a PC which are easy to reconfigure to simulate the fracture behaviour of different materials. A recently devised fracture PC model is presented which is configured to be used with the frozen tongue experimental technique 1,2 to study the dynamic fast fracture processes in medium density polyethylene (MDPE).
