DESIGN OF SPECIAL SHIPS EQUIPPED WITH NON-CONVENTIONAL DE-OILING EQUIPMENT FOR CLEANING OILY SHIP'S WATERS AND REMOVAL OF OILY SPILLS. IN: MARINE TECHNOLOGY IV

A significant amount of pollution in the water is caused by shipping and maritime activities. In tonnage terms, the most important pollutant resulting from shipping operations is oil. In the introductory part of this paper, an assessment of the amount of oil damped into the seas from ships is made. Shortcomings of de-oiling systems installed on ships today are also discussed. To further reduce the oil pollution threat, more effective methods of oil separation from ship's bilge and ballast waters are proposed. Lastly, various solutions of complex reception systems consisting of special ships or barges are detailed.
