Design and analysis of district heating systems. Volume 3. Assessment of district heating for Providence, Rhode Island. Final report

This report assesses the technical and economic feasibility of implementing a hot water district heating system in Providence, Rhode Island. It provides conceptual designs for power plant modifications and transmission/distribution systems to satisfy the heat load for the present steam system and the projected heat load for an expanded system. It includes a system implementation plan with equipment installation phases corresponding to projected increases in heat load. It also calculates the financial implications of such a hot water district heating system. This report is volume 3 of a 4 volume research project entitled Design and Analysis of District Heating Systems. Volume 1 summarizes the methodology for assessment of district heating technical and economic feasibility and the results of studies performed for the cities of Lansing, Michigan; Providence, Rhode Island; and Springfield, Massachusetts. Volume 2 presents the site specific results for Lansing, Michigan and volume 4 presents the site specific results for Springfield, Massachusetts. 29 figures, 26 tables.
