Analysis of Effective Signal to Noise Ratio Performance of a Typical Underwater Acoustic OFDM System

In addition to the ambient noise, the effective signal to noise ratio (ESNR) considers the impact of intercarrier interference (ICI) and channel estimation error, and it is shown to be more consistent than input SNR (ISNR) and pilot SNR (PSNR) in system performance indication. In this paper, the performance of ESNR of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system with orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) channel estimation is analyzed by building the relationship between the ESNR and the ISNR, ICI and so on. It is shown that for OMP with high delay grid resolution, ESNR indeed functions similarly as PSNR. Simulation results have demonstrated the correctness of our derivations.
