Augmented Reality Enhances the 4-Way Video Conferencing in Cell Phones

Third generation (3G) mobile networks are currently being deployed and user demand for multimedia applications are ever increasing. Four-way video conferencing is one of such an application which could be possible through the cell phones too. This paper deals with the difficulties faced by the video quality in the cell phones during the video conferencing between more than two persons and analysed the possible ways to overcome those difficulties. End user’s satisfaction determines the Quality of Service (QoS) and obviously the satisfaction depends on the reality of the image the user is watching. Due to the small screen size and lower bandwidth, the quality of the image in cell phones ever be made perfect from the transmitter side and the quality of image has to be improved at the receiver side only. Augmented Reality (AR) is one of such promising approaches which guarantees for the high quality of video. This paper proposes an idea of using AR in cell phones for enhancing the video quality during video conferencing.
