A Mobile Cytometry Unit Based on Satellite Communications: Cytosat

The paper presents a new mobile flow-cytometry device, optimized for diagnostic applications in the oncology field for realizing an integrated remote-diagnosis network based on satellite communications. A prototype of a mobile cytometry unit, presenting the same performances of the traditional flow-cytometers, and remotely controlled thanks to a specific software tool has been designed and developed. Moreover, it is possible to transmit the patient recordings and the analyzed data to a control centre through satellite network. The paper describes both the hardware and the software architecture of the new flow cytometer, focusing, in particular, on the mobility characteristics of the developed instrument.
