A Novel Wide-Swing Wide-Bandwidth Scalable Low-Voltage Analog CMOS Multiplier for Communication Signal Processing

This paper reports a novel scalable CMOS four-quadrant multiplier design with wide-signal swing and wide bandwidth enabling numerous applications in communication signal processing. The multiplier operates in a scalable voltage range between 3.3 V and 1 V power supply with a maximum input dynamic range of 500 mV(@ 3.3 V supply) at both the inputs (multiplier & multiplicand inputs) and a -3 dB bandwidth of around 1 GHz. The simulations were carried out using the 3 M1P 0.5 um Agilent (HP) CMOS (with 3.3 V supply) and the 5M1P 0.18 um TSMC CMOS (with 1 V Supply) process technologies. The typical THD (total harmonic distortion) for the multiplier was around -56 dB. The multiplier was found to dissipate a mere 1 mW from a 1 V supply.
