ELECTRICITY and magnetism now form so vast a subject that their mathematical aspects cannot be all dealt with in a single volume even of the present size. Thus a choice has to be made by the author, and one's estimate of his success naturally depends to some extent on what one believes most appropriate for the type of reader whose wants he professes to supply.
