A note on bifurcation of buoyant bent-over chimney plumes

Abstract Observations of buoyant chimney plumes indicate that on certain occasions the plume bifurcates as it becomes bent-over. In this note a possible mechanism is proposed by which bifurcation of a chimney plume could be realized under certain environmental conditions.
