Simulation of a multieffect solar distillator

Abstract Heat and mass balance equations were formulated for a multieffect solar distillator which has recently developed in Japan with a ingeneous idea. The mathematic equations are composed of (3N+2) algebraic equations, where N denotes the number of effect. Calculation with the developed computer program indicates the effect of such design and operation parameters as solar intensity, heat transfer coefficient through the partition, feed rate of brine to each stage on the distilate productivity. The result reveals the advantage of such a multieffect solar distillator.
