Nineteenth Century Britain as a Subtle Commercial Hegemon

En reponse a l'article de J.R. Davis consacre au debat theorique et historique concernant l'hegemonie commerciale de la Grande-Bretagne au XIX e siecle («A reconsideration of Britain as commercial hegemon in the nineteenth century», in «Synthese», 113, 2, 1997, pp. 195-203), l'A. defend la these selon laquelle la Grande-Bretagne a utilise de maniere subtile des pouvoirs economiques de domination afin d'imposer le libre-echange. Par analogie avec le paradoxe du prisonnier, l'A. presente un modele de changement de jeu qui consiste en une extension du concept de jeu a deux niveaux de Putnam
