A fast BIEM for three-dimensional elastodynamics in time domain☆

Abstract A fast boundary integral equation method for three-dimensional (3D) elastodynamics in time domain is proposed. We discuss in detail the plane wave time domain (PWTD) algorithm in 3D elastodynamics, whose complexity is O (N s log 2 N s N t ) or O(Ns3/2Nt), depending on the choice of the algorithms for the Legendre transform, where Ns and Nt are the spatial and temporal degrees of freedom, respectively. An O(Ns3/2Nt) implementation is made, whose efficiency is demonstrated in problems of the size of Ns=O(104).
