Operations and Control of a Reliable Non-Chlorofluorocarbon Based Air Conditioning System via Fuzzy Logic

Abstract The possibility of a non-chlorofluorocarbon-based (non-CFC) air conditioning unit is presented. A non-CFC air conditioning system design consists of series of thermoelectric modules (Peltier cells) imbedded in a thermally insulating material with appropriate heat sink and ducting. Using this configuration, a prototype CFC-free air conditioner was developed that coolslheats a volume effectively with low electrical power requirements. The design concepts suggest applications for automobiles and over-the-road trucking cabs. To control the system and to improve the efficiency, crisp and a fuzzy PI controller are designed for the system. This CFC-free, noncompressor system of attractive efficiency with a few mechanical or moving parts offers the portent of increased reliability and small size at reduced costs and low maintenance requirements.
