This paper introduces a System on a Chip (SoC) equipped with dual RISC processors, an image recognition engine (operating at up to 53.3 GOPS), graphic accelerators, and peripherals for advanced car navigation systems. The SoC has high performance with respect to image recognition applications installed in latest vehicles. The image recognition engine realizes high-speed image processing with its local parallel architecture, hardwired logic, and line programmable architecture. The SoC also meet automotive specifications including cost and size for commercial production. We report on pedestrian detection as a practical application for demonstrating the capability of the SoC.
