Mixed electrical and mechanical simulations using dynamic systems analysis packages

The authors describe how a structure for the routine simulation of power electronic circuits using dynamic systems analysis software has been successfully developed. This structure can be used to simulate power electronic converters along side electromechanical plant and complex control systems. These techniques in combination with the "SIMULINK" software package provide the design engineer with a powerful simulation tool. Entire electromechanical systems such as railway locomotives can be easily simulated. Interaction between system components, which are often complex and difficult to analyse, can be easily studied. A simulation of a DC motor drive supplied from a single phase source is implemented. This simple but illustrative example indicates the large potential of the presented technique.<<ETX>>
