Distributed Optimal Admission Controllers for Service Level Agreements in Interconnected Networks

The transmission of multimedia streams with a particular and guaranteed quality of service (QoS) is a major challenge in multimedia communications over IP networks. In this paper, we present the design and simulation results for a new distributed admission and adaptation controller for a set of interconnected networks. A new greedy admission heuristic and a hierarchical k shortest path heuristic are described which allow for online admission of multi-level Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The controllers cooperate to admit/reject new SLAs and adapt previously admitted SLAs, in order to maximize a given function (e.g., maximizing network revenue), by selecting, and guaranteeing, one of the predefined levels of QoS for each SLA.
