Choi Ji-Hyun. 2001. A Fundamental Discourse on the Media Language Comprehension Theory. For recently some years. there have been various discussions about reading method that is connected with media. But. if examine these contents. we can find that systematization of well-matched theory has been left in insufficient state still to changed reading concept. In this study. I tried to establish the problematic of the media language comprehension theory as extended concept of traditional reading theory. and based on this I examined two basic issues of reading media language. Also. I tried to present contents and proceedings of method to read media language. First. I settled point at issue about reading material. Meantime. published treatises on this theme were substantially the same about essence of that read. Nevertheless. theoretical tendency was found in establishing object to read commonly in this treatises. Instead of adopt existent viewpoint. these treatises extended reading material to media itself. but did not reflect composing method to read complex special quality that the media language keeps. I proposed to make into reading material' the extended media language' in this treatise. Because relevant reading material is keeping essence of the language according to that as sharing form. function. operation. effect etc. as media simultaneously actually. Next. I examined the issue that is connected with realization of the media language. Point at issue happened between standpoints that focus in change of media environment and that focus in change of the media language itself. But. I argued that realization of the media language follows in realization of custom and system that it makes to read media language, not in media environment or media language itself. By conclusion, I emphasized that' reading through media', as following deepening process, is required. as well as including 'reading by media', as concept of traditional reading, and 'reading on media', as cultural mode.
